Our Review
The Keychron K2 Pro sits in that beautiful sweet spot between “good enough for beginners” and “serious enough for keyboard enthusiasts.” It’s the board we recommend more than any other, and after using one for the past year, I completely understand why it dominates the enthusiast recommendations.
The Layout
75% is, in our humble opinion, the best keyboard layout. You keep the function row (essential for developers), the arrow keys are right there, and you save a massive chunk of desk space compared to a full-size board. The K2 Pro nails this layout with everything exactly where you’d expect it.
Hot-Swap is Everything
This is the feature that separates the K2 Pro from cheaper boards. Don’t like the stock Gateron Brown switches? Pop them out with a switch puller and drop in your favourite Cherry, Gateron, or Kailh switches. No soldering, no tools beyond the included puller. It means this keyboard can grow with you as your preferences evolve.
QMK/VIA Support
For the power users, QMK/VIA support means you can remap every single key, create custom layers, and build macros that would make your colleagues’ heads spin. Most people won’t need this, but those who do absolutely love it.
Build Quality
The aluminium frame gives the K2 Pro a heft that feels genuinely premium. At 860g, it’s not going anywhere when you’re hammering away during a coding session. The PBT double-shot keycaps resist shine and oil better than the ABS caps you’ll find on most boards at this price.
The Verdict
At $149 AUD, the K2 Pro punches absurdly far above its weight. It competes with boards twice its price on features and build quality. Whether you’re typing code all day or writing the next great Australian novel, this keyboard makes every keystroke satisfying.
Our highest recommendation for anyone entering the mechanical keyboard world — or anyone looking to upgrade from a basic mechanical board.
